Voldemort’s real name was Tom Marvolo Riddle, later came to known with various names like Lord Voldemort, You-know-Who or He-who-must-not-be-named was an English-half-blood wizard considered to have been the most powerful and dangerous Dark Wizard of all time. He was amongst the most powerful wizard to ever lived, but only one wizard could beat him, Albus Dumbledore.
Descended from Salazar Slytherin in his mother’s side through the House of Gaunt, Tom Riddle was conceived whilst his father. Tom Riddle, Senior, was under the effects of a love potion supplied by his mother, Merope Gaunt. When the love potion enchantment was lifted, Tom’s father left his pregnant wife and returned to Little Hangelton. Merope gave birth to a boy, after an hour later she died. Her last wish was that the boy would look a like his father, so he was named Tom (after his father), his middle name Marvolo, and last name Riddle, so he was named Tom Marvolo Riddle. Tom was born and brought up in a Muggle run orphanage.
As we grew up he discovered his magical powers, due to this many other kids in the orphanage used to fear, then the owner called Albus Dumbledore (as he was a teacher at that time). He talked to Tom and took him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1938. After getting to Hogwarts, he was sorted to Slytherin House. During his school time, Tom discovered his heritage and adopted pure-blood supremacist ideals. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, we came to know that Tom Riddle was the one to open the Chamber of Secrets, and use its monster the Basilisk, for attacking Muggle Born Students.
He began his quest to become immortal, by creating the first Horcrux at the age of 16. While attending Hogwarts, Tom Riddle was made a prefact due to his exceptional knowledge of magic, until his graduation.
After getting his education was completed, he becomes a purchasing agent for the Dark artefact shop Borgin and Burkes before disappearing. Splitting his own spirit into a total of 8 fragments. Tom created 8 Horcruxes last one was created unintentionally and without his knowledge Harry Potter.
After several decades Tom Riddle re-emerged several decades later, he has abandoned his muggle name and he himself renamed as Lord Voldemort (anagram of his real name). In the First and Second Wizarding Wars, he commanded an army of wizards and dark creatures who were geniune to Voldemort. In his years of conquest, he did countless murders, eventually succeeded in gaining his control in British Ministry of Magic.
In 1981 when Voldemort killed James and Lilly Potter, when he was trying to kill Harry Potter, he was ripped from his body. Although unable to die, he was unable to regain a permanent and physical body. He was finally killed by his Harry Potter and Dumbledore when they destroyed all Horcruxes.
