Is GTA 6 Release date finally Revealed? The plot, Characters, Open World Map

According to a new earnings report from Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, it appears that we might finally have a release window for the long-awaited GTA 6. The report looks to the future of Take-Two stating that:

“In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond.”

Although there is no direct confirmation, the “$8 billion in Net Bookings” clearly points to it being one of Take-Two’s bigger IPs. This means that most likely the report relates to GTA 6 as although Rockstar has remained radio silent, small teasers and recent large-scale leaks have revealed that development of the game is well underway.

What this new report means is that the release of GTA 6 will most likely fall in the Fiscal Year of 2025. Although this may seem like a large release window it can be narrowed down to between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

What Does This Mean for GTA 6?

GTA 6

Well, when looking at the previous release dates of other flagship Rockstar titles, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both have had a holiday 2013 and holiday 2018 release window respectively. If GTA 6 sticks to tradition, it is most likely that Take-Two would aim for a Holiday 2024 release making it 11 years between Grand Theft Auto installments.

On top of that, barring any terrible development problems, GTA 6 will most likely be one of the biggest games of all time on release. The early test gameplay footage we’ve seen so far as well as leaked map details indicate that this could be the most ambitious game Rockstar has ever made.

Even in these early stages, there are rumored game mechanics and story details that mean when GTA 6 is finished it could surpass the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 in complexity. The game could even dethrone Grand Theft Auto 5’s sales record of $1 billion in three days due to how hyped it has been.

In the long-term GTA 6 could also go on to outsell its predecessor in all-time sales. Over the last decade, Grand Theft Auto V has remained in the gaming sphere due to its release over multiple console generations and continued developer support from Rockstar, on cash cow GTA Online. However a brand new game, after an over ten-year gap in the franchise, will surely lead to fans snatching up copies of GTA 6 as soon as possible.

At the same time, all this information is speculation and although GTA 6 may aim for a holiday 2024 release window, like most AAA games it could end up being delayed well into 2025. Or maybe, just maybe Rockstar can pull off the near impossible in video game development with GTA 6; a perfect game released on time.

GTA V SUCCESS

In 2013, Rockstar Games released GTA V (Grand Theft Auto V) which got some exceptionally good reviews. In retail, selling the game has reached $1 billion faster than any other entertainment release in history.

GTA V is an open-world game and is basically situated in the fictional city of Los Santos. The map is estimated to be 29 square miles.

GTA V’s story focuses on three protagonists (Michael, Trevor, and Franklin) as they commit heists across the city. Yet while this was enough to make GTA V a successful game, its long-term profit has come from its online component.

The GTA Online RP mode allows players to join their friends and commit all kinds of mischief across the whole of Los Santos. While Rockstar Games has been updating its content and gameplay since 2013, including GTA’s new online Criminal Enterprise update, it’s been 9 years since they released a mainline GTA game.

A recent report from Bloomberg revealed that Rockstar Games has gone through some changes in the development of GTA 6. It was revealed that changes within the company and the wider world helped in better decision-making.

However, in the past five years, employees have made various efforts to make GTA a better gaming series. The Killing of George Floyd motivated the employees to be more cautious about portraying marginalized groups.

For this reason, for the first time in the GTA series, it is rumored to have a female protagonist of Latin American descent. Furthermore, the report has stated that the game may even take a different tone from previous titles.

While previous GTA games have been an iconic portrayal of America, employees have disclosed that they can no longer mock America if it is already satire in itself. GTA 6 is going to be completely different due to internal changes in Rockstar Games.

GTA 6 DETAILS ON ITS OPEN-WORLD MAP

According to a Bloomberg article, GTA 6 – or as Rockstar Games calls it, Project Americas – will be larger than any GTA game. This means that the GTA 6 map will be larger than 30 miles and will have more interior locations than GTA 5.

The early development of GTA 6 explored the vast territories inspired by North and South America. If this plan continued, Rockstar Games would have created several cities to explore in GTA games.

However, the gaming company had to cut these early designs and focus only on the main map. This map will supposedly be a fictitious city with surrounding areas similar to Miami (just like GTA 3’s vice city).

GTA 6 will reportedly take place in a “fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.

While this may seem quite disappointing, the game developers plan to update the game with new missions and cities. Updating GTA 6’s scope will help Rockstar Games reduce the kind of crunch that troubled the Red Dead Redemptions development. And even though there will not be more than one city in GTA VI’s original based game, the game’s world will still be the largest in the GTA series.

GTA 6 Will Follow The Story of a Criminal Couple

GTA 6 will apparently have a pair of main characters that are inspired by the bank robber Bonnie and Clyde. Although not much is known about the story, Rockstar Games’ decision on the main characters may give some clues. Whether these historic details will influence the ending and potential villains of GTA 6 is still yet to be confirmed.

Bonnie and Clyde were a famous criminal couple who were known for robberies between 1931 – 1934. This makes them ideal influences and protagonists for the upcoming Rockstar Game if this rumor is true. The criminal couple was a sensation in the American press and later became glamorized and romanticized.

Although the two are known as a pair, there were also members of the Barrow gang, of which Clyde was the leader. In 1934 the couple was ambushed by police and shot dead by former Texas Ranger Captain Hamer.

GTA 6 CHARACTER DETAILS

GTA 6 First Female Protagonist Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow

According to the Bloomberg article, this time the game will have only two lead characters. If the game’s characters are inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, players can expect male and female protagonists to be involved in an intense romantic relationship. This makes a change from the earlier one that suggested GTA 6 protagonists are going to be twins. Bloomberg’s article did not clarify that the male protagonist might also be from Latin America.

Boonie Parker experienced some hardships when her father died when she was just 4 years old. At fifteen, she married a boy in high school, but after his trial with the law led to him abandoning her, the marriage ended.

Boonie dreamed of becoming an actress, singer, or writer, but in 1929 when the Great Depression hit, she was unable to find any work. Shen then might Clyde Barrow, and her criminal life began. Clyde was born into a poor family and experienced neglect. He did not do well in school, and he enjoyed watching movies of famous cowboy outlaws.

People around him found that Clyde was obsessed with guns. After Clyde left school at 16, he took the same path as his brother and started committing petty crimes.

From the Bloomberg article, it’s quite clear that Rockstar Games is moving in a new direction after the departure of many of the studio’s leading figures, who encouraged an unsustainable crunch working culture.

The upcoming GTA game is not predicted to be released anytime soon due to structural and ethical changes within Rockstar Games. Many articles are stating that Rockstar Games may publish the game in 2024, but it’s just a theory because Rockstar Games has not made any confirmation about the release date, nor has the announcement trailer been released by the company, so such rumors cannot be confirmed.

Furthermore, even if some of this is true, Rockstar Games’ decisions may change during the development process. For now, players can look forward to a big open world, the GTA series’ first female protagonist, and an engaging story inspired by Bonnie and Clyde in GTA 6.
